How can a photographer create without creations of others?
Paris, Centre Pompidou, Paris-Delhi-Bombay (Archives – Summer 2011)
The artist, Hema Upadhyay, recreated the Dharavi Slum of Bombay on two sides of a narrow corridor. This photograph plays with the lights and shows a detail the elaborated work.

Since 1959 the 14th Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration has lived in exile in Dharamsala / McLeod Ganj.

When India was ruled by the British, the government used to move to Shimla for the hot season to enjoy fresh air up on the seven hills. Some great buildings remind from this past.

In the capital of both states of Punjab and Haryana, buildings and roads are as important as trees.
Chandigarh is a very well organised city designed by the Swiss architect Le Corbusier. Divided up into different sectors, one of them being for pedestrian only Chandigarh is one of the best planned city in India. And in sector 22, look for one of the best sweets shop and restaurant called Sai Sweet!

In such a well organised and symmetrical city it is quite a wonder to discover a junk garden! When Chandigarh has been designed a lot of villages in the surroundings havec been demolished. An Indian, Nek Chand, felt concerned about the consequences. He started collecting the materials from these villages and building a garden with them: ceramics, bangels, poettery… Though illegal, his work reminded a secret for almost 20 years and grew up to 12 acres of statues, paths, waterfalls, gorges, buildings…
Also known as the Bahai house of worship. So many people shouting outside become so quiet as soon as they enter the Lotus temple. It is a place where people from all religions are welcome.
The perfect time of the day with a lovely sunset and an Old Ambassador parked under a floor lamp!
Paris-Delhi-Bombay could stand for the destinations of my planned trip for the next months… but it is also the title of the Current exhibition in Centre Pompidou, Paris
Different artists, either French or Indian contributed to this exhibition. Their works of Art express what they think or what they perceive about India today.
My favorite piece is the one from Hema UPADHYAY: Think Left, Think Right, Think Low, Think Tight, 2010
It is a colorful representation of the largest slum of Mumbai called Dharavi. Have a look at the pictures and try to imagine a tight corridor. On both side of it, vertically and miniature, full of colors, a reproduction of the slum thanks to recycled materials. It is amazing to pay attention to the details like places of worship or electrical systems!
If you happen to be in Paris anytime from now until the 19th of September 2011, do not hesitate to visit the Centre Pompidou!
