Nek Chand’s Rock Garden

Chandigarh is one of the best planned city in India.

In such a well organised and symmetrical city it is quite a wonder to discover a junk garden! When Chandigarh has been designed a lot of villages in the surroundings havec been demolished. An Indian, Nek Chand, felt concerned about the consequences. He started collecting the materials from these villages and building a garden with them: ceramics, bangels, poettery… Though illegal, his work reminded a secret for almost 20 years and grew up to 12 acres of statues, paths, waterfalls, gorges, buildings…
